Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock—The Musical celebrates one year on Broadway December 6 with the online release of a mini-documentary film about the show's creation.
The film can be viewed here after 1 PM ET December 6.
The musical began preview performances at the Winter Garden Theatre November 9, 2015, and officially opened December 6, 2015. It is the first of Lloyd Webber’s self-produced musicals to originate in the U.S., and the composer once again has the rare distinction of having three musicals running simultaneously on Broadway: School of Rock, Cats, and The Phantom of the Opera.
Over the past year School of Rock has created many “firsts” for young artists on Broadway both onstage and off. From the many Broadway debuts among the show’s youthful cast, to the development process at Gramercy, to the 360 video, the musical has enabled talented young people to stretch their creative abilities. One such artist is Jordan Axelrod, an NYU film student who shot and edited a 25-minute documentary chronicling the new musical’s road to Broadway. Axelrod has been embedded with School of Rock from the beginning, shooting and creating digital content that has been compiled into this documentary. The film takes viewers from rehearsals through the 2016 Tony Awards, at which the show was nominated for Best Musical.
School of Rock—The Musical made its London premiere November 14, 2016.
