Classic Arts News West End's Michael Ball to Star in New York City Opera's Patience Michael Ball, who recently ended a brief stint in the London production of The Woman in White, will make his New York City Opera debut in September.
Ball, who made his Broadway debut in Aspects of Love, will star as Reginald Bunthorne in Gilbert and Sullivan's Patience. Tazewell Thompson will direct this new production, which will co-star Tonna Miller in the title role with Myrna Paris as Lady Jane, Kevin Burdette as Archibald Grosvenor, Timothy Nolen is Colonel Calverley, Matthew Burns as Major Murgatroyd and Christopher Jackson as The Duke of Dunstable.

Gary Thor Wedow will conduct the operetta; the remainder of the creative team includes Donald Eastman (set design), Merrily Murray-Walsh (costume design) and Robert Wierzel (lighting design). The production will be sung in English with supertitles.

Michael Ball made his Broadway debut as Alex in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Aspects of Love, a role he created on the London stage. His other London stage credits include The Woman in White, The Pirates of Penzance, Les Mis_rables, The Phantom of the Opera, Passion, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Ball's numerous, best-selling solo recordings include Centre Stage, Christmas, Live at the Royal Albert Hall, The Movies, The Musicals, First Love, Always, and Michael Ball.

Patience will be performed at the New York State Theater September 10-October 5. Single tickets will go on sale August 1, although tickets are currently available through subscriptions and group sales. Visit www.nycopera.com for more information.
