Performances of the commercial transfer engagement began Nov. 1, following its initial run at Atlantic Theatre Company's Atlantic Stage 2 in the late summer (to Oct. 5).
The new comedy, written and performed by Pittu (Is He Dead?, LoveMusik), co-starring Peter Bartlett (The New Century), is co-directed by Pittu and Atlantic artistic director Neil Pepe (Speed-the-Plow) with original music by Randy Redd and lyrics by Pittu. The cast also features Chandra Lee Schwartz, Max Kumangai, and Matt Schock.
What's That Smell is produced by Daryl Roth and Atlantic Theater Company.
The comedy charts the personal and professional life story of a no-talent musical comedy writer who is on the brink of fame — or perhaps infamy. Pittu is Sterling, and Bartlett is the cloying, fawning talk show host who interviews him.
The performance schedule is Monday evening, and Wednesday through Saturday at 8 PM, with Saturday matinees at 2 PM and Sunday performances at 3 PM and 7 PM. Tuesdays are dark. There will be no performance on Dec. 15.
