Welcome to What's the Buzz, Andrea Prince's weekly column that tracks what theatre fans across North America are discussing in the Playbill On-Line chat room on America Online

This week in Playbill chat theatre fans discussed a wide variety of topics ranging from the opening of the Boston production of the Broadway hit musical Rent to the impending release of the Evita film soundtrack, starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas.

As many of people may have heard, the new production of Rent is in previews Boston's Shubert Theatre. The cast, which includes Luther Creek as Mark, Sean Keller as Roger, Stephan Alexander as Angel, CC Brown as Tom Collins, and Carrie Hamilton, daughter of Carol Burnette, as Joanne, stepped onto the stage for the first preview this past week. Some of our die-hard Rent fans had the opportunity to attend the performance and shared their opinions of the show.

The complete cast of the New York production is scheduled to attend the show in Boston on Nov. 18. Stop by to hear what the fans had to say. And don't forget that Anthony Rapp, who plays Mark in the New York production of Rent will be online to chat with some of his fans on Monday, Nov. 25 at 8 pm. The other hot topic in Playbill chat was the opinions and responses to the long awaited release of the soundtrack to Madonna's Evita which will finally be available in stores Tuesday, Nov. 12. For anyone in the New York area, the Virgin Megastore in Times Square will remain open late on Monday the 11th to sell the two-CD set, priced at $20.99, starting at midnight. The movie, however, is not scheduled to open until Dec. 25 in New York and L.A., and not until January in all other areas. Please join us in the Playbill chat room and let us know who your favorite Evita is and get ready to review the CD for us.
