Deadline.com reports that the creative team for the musical smash Wicked, including composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz, librettist Winnie Holtzman and producer Marc Platt, have started meeting with filmmakers to formally discuss a film adaptation of musical, and some of those filmmakers should be able to work magic to rival any witch’s brew.

According to deadline, the Wicked team has met with the following possible directors: “Glee” co-executive producer Ryan Murphy (who will direct the upcoming Julia Roberts film “Eat, Pray, Love,”), Tony and Oscar-nominated director Rob Marshall (“Nine,” “Chicago,” Cabaret), film and television producer-director J.J. Abrams (“Star Trek,” “Lost,” “Fringe”) and writer-director James Mangold (“Knight and Day,” “Walk the Line”).

The film will be released by Universal, which co-produced the musical with Platt, and which is also developing a “Mamma Mia!” sequel and film versions of the musicals Billy Elliot and In the Heights.
