Crossley will play Bill Snibson, a barrow boy, a heartbreaker and the long lost son of the late Earl Hareford, with Rooper as Sally and Margolyes as the Duchess.
Crossley was last seen as Bert in the U.K. tour of Mary Poppins. He has appeared in the West End in Chicago, at the National Theatre in Anything Goes and Love's Labour's Lost and at the Open Air Theatre, Regent's Park in last year's production of Hello, Dolly!
Rooper is currently appearing in All My Sons at the West End's Apollo Theatre. At the National she has appeared in Her Naked Skin and The Power of Yes. Her TV credits include "Lost in Austen," "Silent Witness," "The Railway Children" and as a series regular in "As I." She is also about to star in the new ITV drama "A Bouquet of Barbed Wire."
Margolyes has appeared as Madame Morrible in both the London and Broadway productions of Wicked. Other recent West End roles include Endgame (Duchess Theatre). She is well known for her cameos in the "Blackadder" TV series. Film credits include "The Age of Innocence" (for which she won a Bafta for best supporting actress), "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People," "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" (she will reprise the role of Professor Sprout in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"), "Ladies in Lavender," "Being Julia," Baz Luhrmann’s "Romeo and Juliet" and "James and the Giant Peach."
The production is directed by Anna Mackmin, returning to Sheffield Crucible where she was previously an associate director for the company, where her credits included Cloud Nine, The Crucible, Iphigenia, Teeth ‘n’ Smiles and The Arbor. She also formed and ran the literary department at Sheffield Theatres during her tenure. In London, she has worked at the Old Vic on The Real Thing and Dancing at Lughnasa, and at the National on Really Old, Like Forty Five and Citizenship/Chatroom/Burn. The production has choreography by Stephen Mear, who won the 2010 Olivier Award for Best Choreography for Hello, Dolly! at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. It is designed by Peter Mackintosh.
