News Workshop of Stephen Schwartz Opera, Séance on a Wet Afternoon, Presented in New York Nov. 21-22 American Opera Projects presents workshop performances of Stephen Schwartz's first opera, Séance on a Wet Afternoon, Nov. 21-22 in New York.

The Nov. 21 performance will be held at The Angel Orensanz Center, 172 Norfolk Street in Manhattan. The Nov. 22 performance will be held at South Oxford Space, 138 South Oxford Street in Brooklyn. Show times for both evenings is 8 PM.

Based on the novel by Mark McShane and the award-winning screen adaptation by Bryan Forbes, Séance, according to press notes, is a "psychological thriller about a medium, Myra Foster, who conspires with her husband to gain fame and fortune by kidnapping a girl and then 'finding' her through her séances." The opera will have its premiere in 2009 at Opera Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, CA.

The two-act opera by the composer of Wicked and Godspell is directed by Scott Schwartz and features Lauren Flanigan, Ory Brown, Caroline Worra, Thomas Wazelle, Daniel Hoy, Michael Zegarski, Michael Marcotte, Garrett McClenahan, Maeve Höglund, Jessica Miller-Rauch, Drew Santini, Madeline Marquis, John Kimberling, Matthew Curran, Hila Plitmann and Mick O'Brien.

The actors will be accompanied by pianists Charity Wicks and Chris Cooley. Valéry Ryvkin is the music director.

American Opera Projects honors Schwartz and the company's own 20-year history with post-show receptions. Tickets to the performance are priced $50. For reservations visit www.operaprojects.org.
