News World Premiere of The Director Begins at The Flea Feb. 21 The Flea Theater stages the world premiere of Barbara Cassidy's new drama The Director beginning Feb. 21.

Jessica Davis-Irons directs the production, which officially opens March 1 and runs through March 31.

The play is about a film director who seduces women by offering to cast them in his movies, and one victim who "begins a journey to regain her sense of self by interviewing other victims," according to press notes.

The cast includes members of The Bats, the resident acting company of The Flea. Sets are by Neil Wilkinson, lights are by Peter Ksander, costumes are by Chloe Chapin and sound is by Jill BC DuBoff.

Cassidy received an MFA in playwriting from Brooklyn College and is the author of Interim, among other plays, and is published in the anthology "New Downtown Now." Her work has been seen at Little Theatre at Tonic, The New York International Fringe Festival and BRIC Studios.

Davis-Irons is the artistic director of Andhow! Theater Company. She has been the associate artistic director of Adobe Theatre Company and an artistic associate at Adirondack Theater Festival. She has directed at 78th Street Theater Lab, Peculiar Works Project, New Georges and Blue Heron Arts Center.
