News World Science Festival Gala to Feature James Naughton, Debra Monk, Alan Alda and More Alan Alda will host the 2012 World Science Festival's May 29 gala, A Performing Arts Salute to Science, featuring James Naughton and Debra Monk, at the Allen Room.

The 7:30 PM event, co-hosted by Alda and Columbia University physicist Brian Greene, features Broadway performers and classical artists.

Tony winners Naughton (City of Angels, Chicago) and Monk (Curtains, Steel Pier) will be joined by violinist Joshua Bell, David Hibbard (Billy Elliott, Spamalot), Rose Hemingway (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying), Drew Gehling (Jersey Boys, On A Clear Day...), Eryn Murman (Spring Awakening), Paige Faure (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying), Abby O’Brien (Pal Joey, Spamalot) and the Momix dance company.

In addition, the festival will also present the orchestral work Icarus at the Edge of Time, adapted by Brian Greene and Tony-Award winning playwright David Henry Hwang (Chiglish, M. Butterfly) and featuring a score by Philip Glass. LeVar Burton ("Roots") will narrate the 7 PM performance on May 30 at the United Palace Theatre that is billed as "a stunning, full-orchestral work with animated film and live narration that brings a powerful modern twist to a classic myth, taking audiences of all ages on a whirlwind voyage through space and time, to the very edge of understanding."
