News Would-Be Lips Together Star Oswalt Joins Broderick and Johnston on "Beach Lane" Patton Oswalt — who was to make his stage debut in the postponed Broadway revival of Lips Together, Teeth Apart — has landed a role opposite Broadway veterans Matthew Broderick and Kristen Johnston in the NBC pilot "Beach Lane."

The comedian-turned-actor will play James, a slacker who inherits a Hamptons newspaper in the half-hour comedy, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Paul Simms ("Bored to Death," "The Larry Sanders Show") penned the script and will executive produce the series with Lorne Michaels and Marci Klein. Broderick (The Producers) will appear as a celebrity author who is brought on board to help revive the struggling publication. Kristen Johnston (The Women) will play James' stepsister, a real estate agent.

Oswalt, who currently appears in a recurring role on Showtime's "The United States of Tara," is best known for his voice work as the rat on the animated film "Ratatouille." He has been seen in the films "Big Fan," "The Informant" and "Observe and Report" and on television in "The King of Queens," "Reno 911!" and "Caprica."
