The Edward and Sally Van Lier Directing Fellowships will be available in summer 1999 to young directors working in Spanish language theatre.
Administered through Repertorio Espanol, the fellowships allow New York City directors under the age of 30 to choose a contemporary work by a Hispanic writer or a work of interest to Hispanic audiences, and direct it using a modest production budget at Repertorio Espanol’s Gramercy Arts Theatre on East 27th Street.
The application deadline is Mar. 1.
The goal of the Van Lier Fellowship is to invite the young artists to expand artistically and deal realistically with the business aspects of professional theatre.
The program began last year and included six fellows. Repertorio Espanol is in its 31st season, presenting classic and modern plays and musicals in rotating repertory.
For information about the fellowships, call Allison Astor-Vargas at Repertorio Espanol at (212) 889-2850.
