SEEKING

Equity actors and actor/singers for various roles in the Constellation Stage & Screen 2024-25 Season.

Constellation Stage & Screen is committed to an inclusive approach to casting. Actors of all types, abilities and identities are encouraged to submit for the role with which they identify.

PREPARATION

Please prepare your choice of the following:

a) 2 contrasting monologues, b) 1 contemporary monologue and 1 32-bar musical selection, c) 2 contrasting 32-bar musical selections. Singers, bring clearly marked sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided.

Constellation Stage & Screen is a professional theater and film company in Bloomington, IN.

For the Mainstage 2024-2025 Season, all shows will be produced in downtown Bloomington at the Waldron Arts Center (150 seats), the Constellation Playhouse (85 seats), and the Buskirk Chumley Theater (550 seats).

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

Three retired best friends. One hotrod surf instructor. The currents of the Pacific Ocean. What could possibly go wrong? Set on surfboards, WIPEOUT is a poignant comedy about friendship, grief, and the unpredictable tides of life.

SEEKING:

CLAUDIA – late 60s/early 70s, female identified, any race/ethnicity. The sensible one - she’s checking that everyone has sunscreen and is a reliable, loyal friend. She’s also a bit repressed and old fashioned.

WYNN – late 60s/early 70s, female identified, any race/ethnicity. The jaded one - she keeps busy, mostly to avoid thinking about her age. Has been MIA for a bit, which she chalks up to her schedule and her pending divorce from husband #4, but she’s been avoiding Margaret intentionally.

MARGARET – late 60s/early 70s, female identified, any race/ethnicity. The adventurous one - goes by Gary. She’s a human ray of sunshine, but she’s also starting to suffer from dementia.

BLAZE – 19-22, male identified, any race/ethnicity. Young surf instructor, sweet guy with a strong moral code who takes care of his drug addicted mother. Native Californian.

Buskirk-Chumley Theater

The classic family film comes to life on the BCT stage this holiday season. After being swept away to the magical land of Oz, Dorothy befriends the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion as she confronts the Wicked Witch of the West and tries to make her way back to Kansas.

SEEKING:

DOROTHY - 18+ to play mid-teens, female identified, any race/ethnicity, Mezzo-Soprano. Dorothy has a sweet, innocent presence, which masks a brave and loyal streak.

AUNT EM/GLINDA - 40s-50s, female identified, any race/ethnicity, Soprano. Aunt Em is a tough farmer who doesn’t suffer fools. She loves her niece but doesn’t tolerate her nonsense. Glinda is the Good Witch of the North, a warm and welcome presence everywhere she goes. This role requires flying.

UNCLE HENRY/EMERALD CITY GUARD - 40s-50s, male identified, any race/ethnicity, any vocal part. Uncle Henry is a farmer who has a soft spot for Dorothy, but always sides with his wife when challenged. Emerald City Guard takes his job seriously and never wants to cross the Wizard.

HUNK/SCARECROW - 20s-40s, male identified, any race/ethnicity, Tenor. Hunk is a goofy farmhand who works for the Gales. The Scarecrow quickly befriends Dorothy on the road to Oz. He has more brains than he gives himself credit for. This role calls for an excellent dancer with good comedic instincts.

HICKORY/TIN MAN - 20s-40s, male identified, any race/ethnicity, Tenor. Hickory is a cranky, bossy farmhand who works for the Gales. The Tin Man befriends Dorothy on the road to Oz. He has more heart than he gives himself credit for. This role calls for a strong mover with good comedic instincts.

ZEKE/COWARDLY LION - 20s-40s, male identified, any race/ethnicity, Tenor. Zeke is a big-talking farmhand who works for the Gales. The Cowardly Lion befriends Dorothy on the road to Oz. He has more courage than he gives himself credit for. This role calls for a strong, physical comedian who sings and moves very well.

MISS GULCH/WICKED WITCH - 30s-50s, female identified, any race/ethnicity, Mezzo-Soprano. Miss Gulch lives nearby the Gale family’s farm. She’s got a mean streak and friends in high places. She hates dogs and anyone who gets pleasure out of life. The Wicked Witch is on a mission to avenge her sister’s death after Dorothy kills her by accident. This role may require flying.

PROFESSOR MARVEL/WIZARD - 50s-60s, male identified, any race/ethnicity, Baritone. Professor Marvel is a charlatan who encounters Dorothy when she runs away. He uses trickery to tell her fortune. The Wizard is much the same, a man who has amassed power by pretending to be something he’s not. This role requires flying.

ENSEMBLE - The Adult Ensemble will consist of singer/dancers who will play a variety of minor roles and cover the principal roles listed above. The Youth Ensemble will play Munchkins and appear in a few other large group scenes/songs.

MISERY

Based on the Stephen King story and the thrilling film, Misery centers on best-selling writer Paul Sheldon, who is rescued from a terrible car accident by his “number one fan” Annie Wilkes. While convalescing in her home, Paul soon discovers that Annie is interested in much more than his recovery and will do anything to get what she wants out of her favorite romance writer.

SEEKING:

PAUL SHELDON - CAST. 40s-60s, male identified, any race/ethnicity. Paul is a charismatic, successful author of period romances who wants to make a big change in his career and be taken more seriously as a writer. This is a physically demanding role that requires a lot of fight choreography.

ANNIE WILKES - 40s-60s, female identified, any race/ethnicity. Annie had a strict religious upbringing that has left her with hardened ideas about right and wrong. She’s a loner with an angry streak, which she covers well by adopting an innocent persona. This is a physically demanding role that requires a lot of fight choreography.

BUSTER - 40s-60s, male identified, any race/ethnicity. A small-town Sheriff in a remote part of Colorado. He’s no dummy, but he tries to assume the best of people. This is a minor supporting role.

MAPLE & VINE

Katha and Ryu have become allergic to their 21st-century lives. After they meet a charismatic man from a community of 1950s re-enactors, they forsake cell phones and sushi for cigarettes and Tupperware parties. In this compulsively authentic world, Katha and Ryu are surprised by what their new neighbors - and they themselves - are willing to sacrifice for happiness.

SEEKING:

KATHA - mid to late 30s, female identified, White. Katha has recently had a miscarriage and her publishing job has completely burned her out. She is in desperate need of a change.

RYU - mid to late 30s, male identified, Japanese-American. Ryu is a stressed out plastic surgeon who is trying to help his wife get out of her rut, but is more skeptical than she is of this new opportunity.

DEAN - late 30s-early 40s, male identified, White. Dean is the leader and spokesperson for the Society of Dynamic Obsolescence. He’s a true believer, but he’s also hiding (and hiding from) his true self.

ELLEN/JENNA - late 30s-early 40s, female identified, White. Ellen is Dean’s faithful wife and Vice President of the Authenticity Committee, a role she takes very seriously. Jenna is Katha’s work colleague who is a typical Millennial and would not survive without her cell phone.

ROGER/OMAR - mid to late 30s, male identified, race/ethnicity not specified. Roger is the floor manager at the factory where Ryu works and is aggressively pursuing Dean, against the rules of the SDO. Omar is Katha’s work colleague, who eventually replaces her. He’s Jenna’s gay work friend and loves to gossip.

This lush musical drama imagines a secret history of the first wives of Henry VIII. Discover the bond between Anne Boleyn and Catherine of Aragon, as told through the eyes of their lady-in-waiting, Maria de Salinas, and set to a pop-influenced score.

SEEKING:

QUEEN KATHERINE - ages from late 20s to early 50s, female identified, any race/ethnicity, Pop Belter. The brilliant and brave wife of Henry VIII. She’s a leader in her own right, stifled under her husband’s rule and unable to deliver the one thing he wants most, a male heir to the throne.

LADY ANNE BOLEYN - ages from teens to late 30s, female identified, any race/ethnicity, Pop Belter. A fish out of water when she arrives at the English Court, but she’s clever and immediately makes herself useful to the Queen. Anne is well read and longs for more freedom than the court can offer.

LADY MARIA SILAS - ages from late 20s to early 50s, female identified, any race/ethnicity, Mezzo with Indie-Pop sound. Queen Katherine’s childhood friend turned Lady in Waiting. She is Katherine’s closest advisor and keeper of her secrets.

KING HENRY VIII - ages from early 20s to late 40s, male identified, any race/ethnicity, Pop Tenor. Vain and sometimes cruel because he feels fiercely competitive with Katherine, but he loves her on some level. Takes mistresses as he pleases and does not like to be crossed in public.

PRINCESS MARY TUDOR - ages from early teens to mid 30s, female identified, any race/ethnicity, Mezzo. Awkward young princess who is a political pawn. Her popularity and happiness rise and fall with Queen Katherine’s power. This track may also play Ensemble roles.

JUDGE - ages from 40s to 60s, male identified, any race/ethnicity, any vocal part. The King’s advisor and conspirator. This track may also play Ensemble roles.

CARDINAL - ages from 40s to 60s, male identified, any race/ethnicity, any vocal part. The King’s advisor and conspirator. This track may also play Ensemble roles.

LADY HASTINGS - ages from early 20s to late 40s, female identified, any race/ethnicity, Mezzo. The King’s mistress before Anne Boleyn. She longs to be the Queen but doesn’t have the brains to manipulate the King. This track may also play Ensemble roles.
