Dallas Theater Center maintains a resident acting company. When casting productions, DTC looks first to the Diane and Hal Brierley Resident Acting Company to fill roles. DTC also maintains a relationship with Meadows School of the Arts at SMU and Booker T. Washington High School for the Visual and Performing Arts. As part of this relationship DTC often casts students from these programs in mainstage productions. Additionally, DTC casts actors from the region and nationally for a variety of roles. Auditions for these roles occur on an as-needed basis throughout the year.

Dallas Theater Center works under the League of Regional Theatres (LORT) contract with Actors' Equity Association, the union of stage actors and stage managers. The union determines the number of Equity and non-Equity actors cast in each production. Local Equity and non-Equity general auditions for the upcoming season are scheduled once per year, usually in late spring. Information about local generals will be posted on our website and on the Actors' Equity website, as well as through our local media.

Local children’s auditions are held on a show-by-show basis. Information about local children’s generals will be posted on our site as well as through our local media prior to auditions.

SYNOPSIS:
In the treacherous mountains of Transylvania, a meek English real estate agent takes a harrowing journey to meet a new and mysterious client, who also just happens to be the most terrifying and ferocious monster the world has ever known: Count Dracula! As famed female vampire hunter Jean Van Helsing and company chase Drac from Transylvania to the British countryside to London and back, their antics are guaranteed to increase your pulse and cause bloodcurdling screams—of laughter.

MINA, VAN HELSING, & OTHERS: Mina is the less attractive, less intelligent Westfeldt daughter, desperate for attention. Dr. Van Helsing is the brilliant and sturdy German vampire hunter, a woman of action. Various dialects. Skilled physical comedian. ALREADY CAST.

DRACULA: Sexy, magnetic, presence for days, a shameless narcissist. Unidentifiable European accent. ALREADY CAST.

DR. WESTFELDT, RENFIELD, & OTHERS: Dr. Westfeldt is Lucy and Mina’s Father, a self-important misogynist given to proclamations. Renfield is a patient of Dr. Westfeldt who lives to serve and loves to eat bugs. Cockney and RP dialects. Skilled physical comedian. ALREADY CAST.

HARKER & OTHERS: Prim and proper, OCD suitor of Lucy. Once bitten he loosens up...a lot...and becomes a Tom Jones style rock star in leather pants. RP dialect. ALREADY CAST.

ERNIE WRIGHT/STARK WILSON: White, 30-50. ERNIE is a likable neighboring homesteader with a temper. STARK is the cold-blooded gunslinger hired by Fletcher to manipulate homesteaders into a duel they cannot survive. Also ENSEMBLE.

WINONA STEPHENS (means: Eldest Daughter in Lakota) - Native American, 20s-30s. A Lakota woman that has been charged by her tribe to negotiate and select better cattle for her people on the reservation. She is an interpreter. Also ENSEMBLE.

JAKE LEDYARD/SAM GRAFTON: White. JAKE is an untrustworthy traveling salesman of farming equipment. SAM is the fair-minded owner of the Grafton Saloon and General store. Also ENSEMBLE.

OLDER BOB/BOBBY STARRETT: Latino, 25-40s and eight years old. A man who recalls an incident from his childhood. He is our witness and our guide. ALREADY CAST.

MARIAN STARRETT: Latina, 30s. Bobby’s Mexican Mother. She’s lively, smart, and opinionated teacher...who is trying to raise her son to be a good man. ALREADY CAST.

JOE STARRETT: Latino & White, 50-60. Bobby’s Father. He’s half Mexican and half white. A farmer. He’s a good man who is trying to provide the best life possible for his young wife and son. ALREADY CAST.

SYNOPSIS:
Meet Kenneth, a 36-year-old bookstore worker who spends his evenings sipping mai tais at the local tiki bar. When he’s suddenly laid off, Kenneth finally begins to face a world he's long avoided – with transformative and even comical results. Primary Trust is a touching and inventive play about new beginnings, old friends and seeing the world for the first time.

SEEKING:
KENNETH: male-identifying, Black, late 30s. An average, yet sensitive, guy with an incredibly deep emotional well and a rich imagination. Has lived in a small town his whole life. Daily routines keep him going - though this comes from years of engrained coping mechanisms. Spends his days working at the local bookstore, and his evenings at happy hour with his best friend, Bert. Desires a life bigger than the one he is living, but fears the unknown. Deeply craves real connection with not a clue how to achieve it, or recognize when it might be right in front of him.

BERT: male-identifying, Black, early 40s. Kenneth’s best and only friend, his biggest cheerleader and comfort. A family man with a good heart and a calming demeanor. Solid and steady. Has a practical way of looking at the world. Highly attuned to people’s needs. Warm, non-judgmental, and encouraging.

CLAY/SAM/LE POUSSELET BARTENDER: male-identifying, White, 50s-60s. CLAY is the manager at Primary Trust Bank. Former college football champion. Worries that his best days are behind him. SAM is a gruff, chain-smoking owner of the local bookstore. Grizzly, but tender. Sailor mouth. Also plays a posh bartender at a bougie establishment.

CORRINA/WALLY’S WAITER/BANK CUSTOMERS: female-identifying, Black, late 30s- early 40s. CORRINA is a smart and confident waitress at the local tiki bar who befriends Kenneth. Open-hearted and willing. Marches to the beat of her own drum. Great sense of humor. Doubles as a rotating ensemble of waiters and bank customers with distinct personalities with range and comic instincts. ALREADY CAST

SYNOPSIS:
Based on the 2007 film of the same name, Waitress tells the story of Jenna Hunterson, a baker and waitress in an abusive relationship with her husband, Earl. After Jenna unexpectedly becomes pregnant, she begins an affair with her doctor, Dr. James "Jim" Pomatter. Looking for ways out of her troubles, she sees a pie baking contest and its grand prize as her chance.

SEEKING:
JENNA: Female, 20s-30s, any ethnicity. A soulful waitress who pours herself into her baking. She’s lovely, but she’s forgotten that. Her dreams were tucked on a shelf years ago. A woman stuck in her life as an unhappily married waitress in a small town. Finds some happiness and expression through her meticulous baking of pies and her friendships with her coworkers. Lives her life paycheck-to- paycheck, day by day, and wants nothing more than to get away and start fresh, unbeknownst to her destructive husband. Has a fantastic pop/rock voice with great range. DAWN: Female, 20s, any ethnicity. The youngest of the waitresses. Socially awkward, a bit of a nerd, loves an ordered world, has spent too much time alone watching The History Channel. Has an excellent pop/rock/folk voice. ALREADY CAST

BECKY: Female, early 40s-early 50s, any ethnicity. The oldest of the three waitresses. Irreverent, irascible, been there, made it back, and somehow kept her forward and sometimes wicked sense of humor with excellent comedic timing. Has a soulful pop voice with an excellent pop belt.

DR. POMATTER: Male, 30s-early 40s, any ethnicity. Handsome, endearing, and neurotic. Has a warm, if clumsy, matter. Jenna’s gynecologist with whom an unexpected extramarital affair is born. Has a quirky sense of humor and a big heart, despite the fact that he’s contributing to the affair. Has impeccable comedic timing and moves well. Has a very strong pop/rock tenor that can navigate the musical style of Sara Bareilles with ease.

EARL: Male, 20s-30s, white. Jenna’s husband. Peaked in high school, handsome in a gruff way, but that face is clouded with broken dreams, drowned with cheap beer. Just enough narcissism mixed with stupidity, to be a potent Molotov cocktail that can explode into unexpected anger one second and then turn into a sobbing mess the next. Publicly he’s all charm, but privately, Jenna gets the brunt of his unhappiness. Guitar playing a plus.

OGIE: Male, 30s, any ethnicity. Strange, yet oddly lovable. A charming, irresistible nerd. Becomes slightly obsessed with Dawn (in a hilarious yet endearing way) after she goes on a 5-minute date with him. Quirky, incredibly persistent, and odd, yet kind. Has excellent comedic timing. Has an excellent pop/rock tenor/baritenor sound.

JOE: Male, 60s-70s, any ethnicity. The owner of the diner. A feisty, older curmudgeon with a hard shell but a buttercream center. Has a soft spot for Jenna (and her pie), warm at heart. A sarcastically funny and no-nonsense guy with a keen ability to read people. Very funny. ALREADY CAST

CAL: Male, 40s, any ethnicity. A chef at the diner. A guy’s guy surrounded by gals. Brash, impatient, unsentimental, but somehow charming. Has a strong pop/rock voice with great comedic chops. Has a strong contemporary baritone singing voice in the style of Sara Bareilles and excellent comedic timing. FEMALE ENSEMBLE: To play Francine, Mother, & Nurse Norma. Must be strong vocalists and movers.

SYNOPSIS:
The biblical story of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes alive in the musical retelling. Joseph -- the favorite son of Jacob -- is blessed with vivid dreams that foretell the future. Sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, Joseph endures a series of adventures which challenge him to his core. Soon he finds himself belonging to Potiphar, whose wife makes advances toward Joseph and ultimately land him behind bars. However, news of Joseph’s ability to interpret dreams sparks the interest of the hilariously Elvis-like Pharaoh. Soon, Joseph is out of jail and well on his way to second-in-command. Eventually Joseph’s brothers find themselves unknowingly groveling at the feet of the brother they betrayed. As they fail to even recognise him, Joseph tests their integrity. He ultimately reveals himself and the brothers are reconciled. A truly timeless Old Testament tale, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is set to a multitude of musical genres, spanning from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock and roll.

SEEKING:
NARRATOR: Female. An actress with a strong rock singing voice (high best to E full range Mezzo) who is strong on comedy and moves well. The audience’s guides through the story. The narrator tells Joseph’s story with word and song. Can command the stage while directing focus to story elements. Strong singer with great energy. ALREADY CAST.

JOSEPH: Male, Tenor. The eleventh son of Jacob. Obviously his father's favorite, Joseph early on shows a talent for interpreting dreams and telling the future. This gets him into trouble with his brothers when he predicts his future will include ruling over the other eleven. However, it saves his life when in Egypt he correctly interprets Pharaoh's dreams. In the end he has risen to a great position of power, but he still forgives his brothers and brings his family to Egypt to partake of the bounty he has accumulated there. ALREADY CAST.

JACOB & OTHERS: Male, 55-65, Baritone. Aged father of Joseph and his 11 brothers. Can sing and move well. Also plays POTIPHAR, a Noel Coward type character. Rich, self-indulgent, and sophisticated Egyptian capitalist. Makes Joseph the leader of his household. Has a powerful speaking voice. May also be cast as a member of the greater ensemble. Also plays PHARAOH, Egypt’s ruler, considered a god on earth. Searching for the meaning behind his/her dreams. Portrayed as a world- famous rock star. Full of energy and confidence. Both roles requires a strong character actor. May also be cast as a member of the greater ensemble.

BROTHERS: 11 18+ actors to play specific styles for specific numbers: Elvis impersonator, country western, Jaques Brel/Maurice Chevalier, Calypso, etc. REUBEN, SIMEON, LEVI, NAPHTALI, ISSACHAR, ASHER, DAN, ZEBULON, GAD, JUDAH, and BENJAMIN. Strong singers and movers.
