Job Overview
Mill Mountain Theatre (MMT) is a professional regional theatre located in downtown Roanoke, VA that has been producing live theatre continuously since 1964. Mill Mountain Theatre operates on a 1.6M annual operating budget. Mill Mountain Theatre has a full-time staff of 8 and works with many contractors throughout the year. MMT has a strong and engaged Board of Directors that is made up of 21 members.

The current Producing Artistic Director will step down by the end of 2024 and will not be moving forward into calendar year 2025. The Board of Directors seeks to hire a new Producing Artistic Director in 2024. The successful candidate will serve an initial period with the current Producing Artistic Director to assure a smooth transition into the position.

The Producing Artistic Director of Mill Mountain Theatre is responsible for overseeing the administration, artistic programs, facilities, and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include marketing and community outreach. This position reports to the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities and Duties
• Administration:
o Maintain clarity of reporting channels, manage and ensure clear roles and responsibilities for all employees
o Maintain and implement employment policies contained in the MMT Employee Handbook
o Hire all administrative and all casting of productions
o Hire musicians in consultation and collaboration with Music Directors
o Provide performance feedback for staff
o Provide project management for all events/services at or for MMT and ensure clarity of assignment for employees, committee members, and other volunteers
All Artistic Programming and season planning with key staff and board members
o Foster and support rehearsal and performance environments of all productions with the creative teams
o Provide administrative oversight for events/services presented by MMT including:
MainStage Season
Fringe Series
MMT Concerts
Educational programs including the Classes, camps, outreach tours, Apprentice Class and workshops with the Director of Education
o Work with Staff to ensure challenging programs are delivered within budget
o Maintain annual events calendar with the Director of Production
• Financial Management
o Oversee the development of the annual budget for MMT with the Business Manager, Staff over Departments and the Board and ensure adherence to the adopted budget
o Work with auditors to complete the annual financial statements with the Business Manager
o Collaborate with all Board Committees
o Maintain relationships with existing donors in coordination with Director of Development
• Marketing
o Oversee the development of all marketing and public relations campaigns with the Creative Director of Marketing
• Board and Community Relations
o Maintain regular contact with the Board about projects and challenges
o Work in concert with all Board committees and committee chairs to achieve goals outlined in the Strategic Plan
o Maintain regular contact with MMT’s patrons through emails, newsletters, and other postings with the Creative Director of Marketing
o Establish and maintain relationships with patrons and organizations on behalf of Mill Mountain Theatre locally, regionally, and nationally

Qualifications
o Undergraduate degree. Advanced degree(s) or demonstrated experience in Performing Arts Management and/or Theatre
o Excellent interpersonal and communications (including public speaking) skills
o Demonstrated experience in leading and managing others
o Demonstrated success in fundraising and/or campaigns

Strong working knowledge of cash flow and financial statements
o Knowledge of and passion for Theatre and Theatre Education
o Demonstrated experience preferred working in an arts organization

Compensation and Work Location
o Commensurate with relevant experience and organization’s budget
o This position will reside in the Roanoke Valley. This is not a remote position.

SALARY

$55,000.00 – $70,000.00 per year
