Technical Management
Full Time Position

Blue Man Group at the Astor Place Theatre is looking for a full-time Production Manager.

The Production Manager is a member of the local management team and working in conjunction with the Production Stage Manager and Company Manager, coordinates the successful, efficient, and safe running of day-to-day show operations and outside events. Effective oral and written communication skills are essential, as are interpersonal skills. The ability to work effectively in a team environment is required. The ability to work with established deadlines is required. The ability to work effectively with diverse populations is required.

Duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Ensure the smooth operation of the production:

o Ensure the effective operation and safe functioning of all technical equipment and elements
o Identify production projects and lead in defining scope, assigning teamresponsibilities
and deadlines, as well asscheduling time in the workspace
o Create, maintain and ensure the execution of all backstage and on-stage safety and emergency procedures
o Oversee all technical elements for content and system refreshes, upgrades/replacements
o Communicate with 3rd party producers/designers and their department liaisons when needed regarding technical changes
o Monitor and evaluate the performance of existing show systems
o Develop and maintain a capital replacement plan for all technical assets
o Oversee the care and maintenance of all show production infrastructure and equipment
o Engage 3rd party vendors when necessary for repairs beyond the local team’s capabilities
o Learn the show run of multiple positions to cover show in emergency situations

Oversee the technical crew:

o Serve as Supervisor for Crew Supervisors, Full Time Crew and Part Time Crew
o Oversee the recruitment, hiring and retention of all technical staff
o Update and maintainaccurate job descriptions, job hazard assessments and training & development protocols and programs
o Oversee performance management of all crew and initiative corrective action in coordination with Company Manager when necessary
o Actively facilitate communication between departments to give context to changes and adjustments
o Create and monitor effective scheduling systems, procedures, and compliance for the Crew
o Monitor show reports, and in tandem with the PSM, ensuretimely tracking and completion of technical show notes.

Oversee the Carpentry Department:

o Maintain and oversee all technical elements of the show under the jurisdiction of the CarpentryDepartment;
o With the support of the full-time Carpenter, ensure systems for all general repair, construction, maintenance, and/or restock of Carpentry supplies and equipment as needed;
o Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise;
o Maintain open communication with Stage Management and other Department Supervisors about the inventory of equipment and supplies, as well as any show notes, technical problems or concerns;
o Manage staffing of Carpentry Department by interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating team members;
o Attend to all disciplinary, scheduling, or job performance issues with team members as needed;
o Manage the training of all members of the Carpentry department and provide ongoing training for members of the department to ensure work consistency and safety;
o Create and maintain effective systems for clear communication of notes, changes, scheduling, and other company information to members of the CarpentryDepartment;
o Create the monthly department schedules, ensuring that all performances, work calls, and projects have appropriate Carpentry staff;
o With the support of the full-time Carpenter,oversee and manage inventory of departmental supplies/consumables;
o Maintain the department budget and follow all Company Management procedures for using purchase orders and submitting receipts;
o Communicate regularly with the Production Stage Manager to stay informed about any changes to the show or template;
o Implement changes to the show as instructed by the Production Stage Manager or other BMP directorial representative;
o With the support of the full-time Carpenter,oversee department run sheets and show cues, including any necessary changes;
o With the support of the full-time Carpenter,prepare regular updates to run sheets as needed;
o Support supplemental carpentry needs for rehearsals, appearances, and gigs;

Serve as a member of the local management team:

o Create a team environment with the Crew, Blue Men, and Band and be proactive in solving concerns and problems;
o Maintain and foster open communications between Local Managers, Supervisors, BM Captain and Resident Music Director and the rest of the company;
o Keep CM updated with progress reports, opportunities, and challenges;
o Aid and encourage communication between company members both within and between cities;
o Serve as the point person for any crew coverage need in and out of New York;

Qualifications:

· Have a strong general knowledge of the technical elements of a theatrical production; including installation and implementation, operations and maintenance
· Effective oral and written communication skills are essential, as are interpersonal skills
· Experience managing otherseffectively
· Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment is required
· Ability to work with established deadlines is required
· Ability to work effectively with diverse populations is required
· Project and resource management: ability to maintain multi-person, multi-event schedules
· Fluent in English, both written and spoken
· Required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. S/he must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This position requires ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.

Applicants should have a flexible schedule with holiday availability. Evening and weekend hours are regular and required.

This is a full-time salaried position, eligible for overtime, anda Competitive Benefits package that includes Medical, Dental, Life Insurance and 401K Plans. The starting salary for this position is $70,000.00.
