Halley Feiffer will appear in one of her own plays for the first time when the long-titled A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center of New York City kicks off the Geffen Playhouse’s 2017–2018 season.
Performances will begin September 5 at the Los Angeles venue, where the play will open officially September 13 and run through October 8.
The show premiered Off-Broadway in 2016 at MCC Theater starring Beth Behrs (Two Broke Girls). For this West Coast premiere, Feiffer stars as Karla, a woman who unexpectedly connects (and disconnects and connects again) with the son of her mother’s hosptial roommate, Don.
Jason Butler Harner plays Don, Eileen T’Kaye as Geena, and JoBeth Williams as Marcie.
Cullman and Feiffer previously collaborated on Moscow, Moscow, Moscow, Moscow, Moscow, Moscow at Williamstown, the MCC Theater production of A Funny Thing..., I’m Gonna Pray for You So Hard at Atlantic Theater Company, and Substance of Fire at Second Stage.
