Entitled "The New World," the film is an adaptation of the classic tale of Pocahontas to be directed by Terrence Malick. Hollywood Reporter says that Plummer will play Captain Christopher Newport in the movie, which stars Colin Farrell as explorer John Smith. According to the industry paper, the film is "set against the backdrop of 17th century America in the nascent Jamestown, Va., settlement where the culture of European explorers collided with that of Native Americans." Filming is expected to begin in July in Virginia. Producers include Sarah Green, Toby Emmerich, Mark Ordesky and Rolf Mittweg.

Christopher Plummer was back on Broadway this season with an acclaimed performance in King Lear at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. His other Main Stem credits include J.B., Cyrano, Othello, No Man's Land and Barrymore. He won Tony Awards for his performances in both Cyrano and Barrymore.
