Playbill.com broke the news of the musical in June when Tony Award-winning producers Barry and Fran Weissler revealed that they were collaborating with their Tony-winning Pippin director Diane Paulus on the new musical.

Due to scheduling, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel, who the Weissler's initially announced as a collaborator on the project, will not be moving forward with the musical and a new book writer will be brought on at a later date.

If all goes smoothly, Waitress could premiere as part of A.R.T.'s 2015-16 season.

The Weissler's Tony-winning revival of Pippin premiered at A.R.T. prior to its acclaimed Broadway arrival. The producers are also attached to the A.R.T. production of The Heart of Robin Hood, which runs through Jan. 19.

Kerri Russell starred in the 2007 film about a woman trapped in a job she hates whose life changes when she discovers she is pregnant.
