Flea artistic director Jim Simpson stages the two-person drama slated to open April 29 and run through May 29 at the company's downtown Manhattan venue.

Nicholson (This, "Law & Order: Criminal Intent") and Waterston (Buffalo Gal, "Dead Poets Society") star as a married couple who "prepare with dread for the annual parents' evening at their daughter's school," according to show notes.

The work focuses on modern-day marriage, director Simpson explains, "particularly the working woman's struggle to be mother, lover, breadwinner and wife - to be it all and to have it all. The play is a striking look at the way we live now."

Nicholson played Off-Broadway in This at Playwrights Horizon and is known for her TV role on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" opposite Jeff Goldblum. She has also played on stage in Craig Lucas’ Stranger, Jez Butterworth’s Parlour Song . Her film credits include "Kinsey," "Staten Island," "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men" and the upcoming "In Praise of Shadows."

Waterston — son of "Law & Order" star Sam Waterston — was recently seen in The Importance of Being Earnest at BAM and in As You Like It at the New York Shakespeare Festival. Other credits include Buffalo Gal, A Perfect Couple and The Flea's run of Ashley Montana Goes Ashore in the Caicos. His screen credits include "The Good Wife," "Six Feet Under," "ER" and "Dead Poets Society." The design team for Parents' Evening features Jerad Schomer (sets), Brian Aldous (lights) and Claudia Brown (costumes).

Playwright Doran has also penned Ben and The Magic Paintbrush, Living Room in Africa, Nest, Until Morning and adaptations of Dickens’ Great Expectations, Maeterlinck’s The Blind and Peer Gynt. She is a 2009 recipient of the Helen Merrill Playwriting Award and a Cherry Lane Mentor Project Fellow as well as a Susan Blackburn Award finalist.
