The De Blasio Family

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio loves Broadway and has a sense of humor.

These two qualities have come together on his tongue-in-cheek “Broadway Emergency Alert System,” modeled on the Department of Homeland Security's color-coded national emergency alert system.

The top-level emergency (Code Red) is “Lin-Manuel [Miranda, of Hamilton] is sick. City, Nation on edge.”

Code Orange refers to Shuffle Along star Audra McDonald.

Code Yellow refers to Waitress star Jessie Mueller. Ellen's Stardust is a theatre district diner that features singing waiters and waitresses.

Code Blue refers to two of the leading characters in The Lion King.

Check out the whole alert system, which he tweeted April 6, below:

Hizzoner also was the guest April 6 in the first live #Ham4Ham performance on the steps of the Richard Rodgers Theatre in several months. He gave a short speech about the show, then repeated it in Spanish:

The clip was recorded by Howard Sherman.
