PBS stations around the country will air the critically acclaimed Joan Rivers documentary, "Joan Rivers – A Piece of Work," Sept. 23.

As part of the American Masters series, the documentary about the late Emmy-winning talk-show host and Tony-nominated actress will be broadcast in the New York area on WNET 13 at 10:30 PM ET; check local listings.

"Take a hilarious year-long ride with Joan Rivers in her 76th year of life," according to press notes. "The film peels away the mask of an iconic comedian, laying bare both the struggle and thrill of life as a groundbreaking female performer fighting to keep her career thriving. Filmmakers Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg … expose the private dramas of this irreverent, legendary comedian as she fights to keep her career thriving in a business driven by youth and beauty."

Rivers, who was a Tony-nominated actress for her performance in Sally Marr...and Her Escorts, died at the age of 81.
