Martin Kemp will step into the role of smooth-talking lawyer Billy Flynn in the London revival of Chicago beginning July 2 at the Phoenix Theatre.

Kemp, known for his performance as Steve Owen on BBC's long-running EastEnders, will succeed Cuba Gooding Jr. Kemp is scheduled to stay with the production through September 1.

The current London company, which also includes Sarah Soetaert, Josefina Gabrielle, Ruthie Henshall, and Paul Rider, will play their final performances June 30. Additional new casting will be announced at a later date.

Kemp has also been seen as Reggie Kray alongside his brother Gary in the film The Krays and as Sam Phillips in the U.K. tour of Million Dollar Quartet. He is one-quarter of the band Spandau Ballet.

Following a successful U.K. and international tour and after a five-and-a-half year absence from London, the John Kander and Fred Ebb began performances at the Phoenix Theatre March 26.

Chicago, which is based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, has a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by Kander and lyrics by Ebb. The 1996 Broadway revival was choreographed by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse, directed by Walter Bobbie, and produced by Barry and Fran Weissler.
