Dartmouth College honored Francisco Mendoza with the 2019 Neukom Institute Literary Arts Award for Playwriting for his immigrant and technology-themed play Machine Learning.

As part of the distinction, Mendoza’s work will receive a reading at Dartmouth's VoxFest in July and a staged reading is planned for Northern Stage in Vermont during the 2019–2020 season.

“Francisco has written a moving and complicated vision of our potential future,” said Jess Chayes, associate artistic director of Northern Stage. “What distinguishes Machine Learning is its use of a story about artificial intelligence to isolate and examine the very things that make us human.”

The Neukom Awards honor works that align with the institute’s mission to explore the computational science and its impact on society.
