Grace & Frankie's Marsha Mason is set to return Off-Broadway this summer in Irish Rep's production of Little Gem by Dublin playwright Elaine Murphy. The Emmy winner, four-time Oscar nominee, and two-time Golden Globe Award winner will be joined by Brenda Meaney (Party Face) and Lauren O’Leary (The Awkward Years).

Little Gem, directed by Marc Atkinson Borrull (Outlying Islands), will begin performances July 17 ahead of a July 25 opening.

Mason was seen Off-Broadway recently in Fire and Air at Classic Stage Company, and previously on Broadway in Impressionism, Steel Magnolias, and The Night of the Iguana. She has received four Academy Award nominations for her roles in the films The Goodbye Girl, Cinderella Liberty, Only When I Laugh, and Chapter Two.

In Little Gem, three generations of North Dublin women find themselves suddenly facing the unexpected. Young Amber (O'Leary) has a case of indigestion which grows into something more, her mother Lorraine (Meaney) discovers salsa dancing after an incident at work leads to therapist-suggested self-care, while Grandmother Kay, “on the wrong side of sixty, but not dead yet,” struggles to take care of a personal itch while adjusting to life as a caretaker for her beloved Gem.

The production will feature set design by Meredith Ries (Cute Activist), costume design by Christopher Metzger (Life Sucks), lighting design by Michael O’Connor (Two by Friel), and sound design by Ryan Rumery (Be More Chill). Arthur Atkinson (Juno and the Paycock) will serve as production stage manager.

Little Gem was previously seen in New York in 2010. The play premiered at the Dublin Fringe Festival in 2008, where it won the Fishamble New Writing Award before transferring to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
