The American Conservatory Theater's Young Conservatory has commissioned a new work from Daisy Foote as part of its New Plays Program. Daisy is the daughter of celebrated playwright, Horton Foote (The Young Man From Atlanta). The younger Foote is the author of such plays as Living with Mary, The Hand of God, and God's Pictures. The new drama, set to open Aug. 21, is as yet untitled. It will be directed by Craig Slaight, with Foote in residence during the rehearsal period.

The New Plays Program, now in its ninth year at the San Francisco resident theatre, regularly recruits dramatists to create works which explore the world from the perspective of young people. The program was created to provide material suitable to the Young Conservatory's acting students, who are ages 8 to 18. In the past, works have been commissioned from Joe Pintauro and Paul Zindel.
